Employers and Employees alike all desire to have a winning strategy in the workplace?  Each day you must set your sights on achieving the professional goals that you have established for yourself, your team, and the company. Read below for easy strategies to implement TODAY!

Stay Positive– Sometimes it’s easy to fall victim to loom and gloom, self-doubt or pity.  However thinking positive thoughts, and replacing negative thoughts with positive thoughts could yield a triumphant outcome to almost any situation.  Staying positive will push you to critically think beyond your limits, think outside the box, and solve unique challenges.

Surround yourself with positive people– Often times you will find individuals in the workplace that are negative, discouraging, demotivating, and looking for partners to join them in the pity party.  Don’t do it.  In fact when you see them coming say something positive to offset any negative comment they will attempt to spew your way.

Speak positively– Speaking positive language is synonymous with the phrase of speaking life into everything that you that you touch.  Use positive affirmations, positive comments, feedback and suggestions, find something positive to include when offering a constructive critical opinion to your colleagues.

Smile as much as you can- It’s therapeutic.  Smiling is contagious.   Have you ever smiled at someone that was frowning and instantly like a light bulb is switched on the person automatically turns their frown upside down into a beautiful smile.  Smiling creates endorphins that positively impact your whole mind, body, and spirit.  Smile when you are speaking on the phone to customers, it will automatically change your mood and tone even during a difficult conversation.

Stay connected with yourself and the world around you– Whether you are working alone or in a team environment check in with yourself and the world around you.   Staying connected with oneself can be achieved by being aware of your emotional state.  Staying connected with the world around you means being aware of other’s emotional changes and being supportively reactionary when acknowledging their emotional changes.  Some define it as having emotional intelligence.

Impactful Employee Onboarding Strategies

The company may change, but the story remains the same.  How does a seemingly perfect new hire turn into a disappointment, failure, and loss for the company?

Unfortunately, we are not mad scientist and have not discovered a one size fit all solution for this conundrum but we do believe the strategies listed below will help improve new hires transition quickly and easily for many of our client companies.

A. Hire Right and Hire Smart the first time

It’s always a probability that your newly hired employee will succeed or fail.  However, you have more control over their successful transition than you think.  Dissect your highest performing employee and determine what makes/him or her successful.  If the new employee embodies many of the attributes of the highest performing employee in your organization then the odds will undoubtedly be in your favor.
B. Prepare yourself and the existing team for the Change

Far too often when a new employee starts his/her first day the company and existing staff are not prepared for their arrival and for the change that this person will bring just by the mere fact of being the “newbie.”  Talk with the existing team about the company’s expectations, and how each person plays a vital role in assisting in the new hire’s transition.

 

C. Have a prepared plan for the entire week

The first week should be filled with organized tasks related to learning about the company, the culture, and the new role and responsibilities.  Don’t make busy work or unimportant work that waste everyone’s time.  Its send’s the wrong message. You want the new hire to adapt quickly and understand how their role will impact the overall goals of the company.

 

D. Leave love notes whenever and wherever you can

Little messages such as “We are happy you are here,” “Welcome Aboard” or “Let’s welcome our newest team member.” These messages must be visible to the new hire. For example a message on the bulletin board, outside the monument, or as simple handwritten note on writing pad or stickie note attached to their workstation.  In addition, oral communication of those powerful words sends the clear message that he/she is needed and welcomed.

 

E. Train them well

Far too often the reason a new hire quits unexpectedly is that they feel inadequate, poorly trained, ignored, unwanted, or worse.  Have a designated trainer or trainers and save time for lots of questions and answers and time for reflection on what information he/she has learned.

 

F. Create an exit interview or survey opportunities for employees that voluntarily leave the company.

Learn what you did not know so that you can use that information to improve your selection and hiring process for the future. This can be done electronically, or one-on-one with the HR team, or through a third party company.

6 steps to Get Hired Quicker!

  1. Treat the act of getting hired like a full-time job?

Wake up every morning at 7:00 AM. Groom yourself, get dressed, and eat a healthy breakfast.  Turn off the television, turn off the social media for leisure use, and begin your day with a list of prospective companies that you would like to research, and submit your resume or application to.

  1. Imagine that you are the HR Recruiter or Hiring Manager receiving your resume and application.

 

Update your resume and have your resume correspond to the job that you are applying for.  Far too often, job seekers send outdated resumes, or resumes that do not pertain to the job that you are applying for. Imagine that you are the hiring manager receiving a resume or application from an applicant that doesn’t list the skills or experience that pertains to their hiring need.  How would you respond?  Would you call that job seeker?

 

  1. Get out and visit potential employers

Get away from your laptop computer, visit your potential employers, shake a hand or two, even if you only visit with the Front Desk receptionist you will be surprised as to how much insight and information you will receive on the quickest way to get hired, the right person to e-mail your resume to, and what it is like working for a particular company.

Submitting applications online does not always ensure a quick path to securing that new job. Take a drive around your city, take note of small, midsized, and major companies.  Although we are in the 21st Century not all companies have an online presence or online application process.

 

  1. Networking is the Gateway to your new job!

Get away from the computer as your only means of job search. Network with similar professionals within the same industry, join professional trade organizations, visit the local unemployment office and get registered as an active job seeker, research non-profit career assistance organizations, and sign up with the career center of your former college or university.

 

  1. Don’t apply in silence

 

Spread the word with Friends, family, colleagues, religious institution members, classmates, neighbors, and others that you are looking for your next career opportunity.  Verbally summarize your skills, abilities, experience, and education, and the type of career opportunity that you are seeking in 60 seconds or less.  Don’t overextend or overstate, but be fair, honest, and praiseworthy of your accomplishments.
